Introduction to your Confirmation journey
This guide is designed to provide all the information, form links, video links,
and important details to help you prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Preparation is a journey of deeper understanding of the Faith and the Church, and
of embracing your personal relationship with God as a disciple of Jesus Christ.
According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC 1309), preparation for
Confirmation should lead you toward a more intimate union with Christ and a more
lively familiarity with the Holy Spirit—his actions, his gifts, and his biddings—
and awaken a sense of belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ, both universal and
within your parish community.
What is Confirmation? (CCC 1315–1317)
“Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of
God, they sent to them Peter and John, who came down and prayed for them that they
might receive the Holy Spirit; for it had not yet fallen on any of them, but they
had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid their hands
on them and they received the Holy Spirit” (Acts 8:14–17).
Confirmation perfects Baptismal grace. It is the sacrament that gives the Holy
Spirit in order to root us more deeply in divine filiation, incorporate us more
firmly into Christ, strengthen our bond with the Church, associate us more closely
with her mission, and help us bear witness to the Christian faith in words and deeds.
Like Baptism, it imprints an indelible spiritual mark on the soul and is received
only once.
