Spartan Specials is a program for students in grades 5-8 at SPS. It is a way for the younger and older students to get to know each other in safe, fun, and engaging courses designed by SPS students. The classes include several students from each grade level.
The Spartan Special classes for 2010-2011 are:
Beach Volleyball: Come and join us in the gym to play beach volleyball, a sport that is quite like regular volleyball, with a few rule changes to add to the fun!
Basic Crochet Stitches: learn some easy stitches to create a nice warm neck scarf for yourself or a friend.
Friendship Bracelet club: make a friendship bracelets out of embroidery floss. Learn to make cool, easy designs.
Faith Newsletter: Students will assist with organizing and putting together a quarterly faith newsletter. Some responsibilities will include writing and editing newsletter articles, typing, designing artwork, and searching for appropriate Bible verses.
Science Puzzles & Games: Fun games to explore science!
Walking Club: Walk 10,000 steps a day!
Math Mania: Explore math concepts by playing "Battleship," "Connect 4," "Yahtzee," "Out of Sight," and "Skip-Bo."
Academic Challenge: Test your knowledge and show off your "smarts" by
joining me for a period of academic questioning!!
Scrabble: Show off your knowledge of words and strategy!
Paper Football: Come join your friends for some healthy competition and
camaraderie, and sharpen your math skills as you add up points playing paper football!
Spartan Spiritworks: Participants will make posters, signs and other expressions of spirit
To support our sports and academic teams. We'll hang our posters, etc all around the school.
Catholic Service Committee: In this club, students will plan and discuss ways through which they can enact Christ’s
love throughout the community, such as visiting retirement homes, helping the developmentally handicapped, and easing the burdens of the poor. This group will involve extra volunteer time outside of school hours.
Some of examples of classes from 2009-2010 are:
Ultimate Frisbee: Come join an ultimate Frisbee team in the gym. Each week
two teams will be competing against one another in the game of ultimate Frisbee. Your team will be using strategies and techniques to throw the Frisbee across the opponents’ goal line. Come join in the fun.
Music Club: Ring the hand bells! Play various styles of music and experience
the endless wonder that is music. Learn to dance in the style of...Create music in the style of....
Puzzlemania: Crosswords, Sudoku, word searches, mazes, & more!.
Creative Writing: Join our team as we plan, write, and illustrate a children's book
by St. Paul School.
Science Games & Puzzles: Fun games to explore science!

Digital Scrap booking: Visit the world of digital scrapbooking. Using your
creative talents and personal photos to create wonderful digital scrapbook pages for all to see.

Origami Committee: Learn the basics of the ancient art of creative and unique
paper folding!
Gregorian Chant: Discover the current chart-topping sound that St. Augustine
referred to in ancient days when he said, "He who sings prays twice." You may be surprised at what that really means!
WSPS Interviewing and Reporting: Students will have fun writing special news
reports for WSPS announcers, creating new sets for the "station", and POSSIBLY video producing news stories. You'll work behind the scenes to enhance our morning WSPS news segments.
Calligraphy: An introduction to calligraphy, the art of beautiful writing.
